Industrial / Manufacturing
Each of our industrial projects presents a challenge unique to each client due to specialized machinery or a specific use for a space. Frontenac Engineering works with a variety of clients designing platforms for machinery, supports for rail cranes, catwalks and access platform systems. We also provide structural design for production facilities and warehouses. Where the client is using a prefabricated metal building, we provide structural design for the foundation and civil engineering for the surrounding site.
Our engineers use 3-D structural models to respond to both the weight of machinery and lateral forces it produces. We adapt each design to address site-specific challenges such as flooding concerns at facilities adjacent to rivers, containment areas for corrosive or toxic materials, and added lateral support to absorb the vibrations of machinery. Our civil engineers strive to optimize infrastructure on the site for the most efficient operation possible, both during construction on existing facilities and in the final product.
Our Projects
G. P. Recycling
FEG provided professional structural engineering services for the design of a new 5 story, 90’ x 180’, industrial plant structure in St. Louis, Missouri. The structure consists of metal roof and steel structure above five floors of steel-framed structure with steel floor decking, above a ground-floor concrete bunker and mechanical room structure. It also includes lateral load resistance framing consisting of structural steel cross-bracing.
Industrial Facility Expansion
FEG provided full engineering design and project management services for a 22,000SF warehouse and process area addition, and tank farm/process area enclosure and upgrade. Challenges included maintaining operations during construction, a fast-track schedule, tight working conditions, Mississippi River flood levels, and spill containment design.
